Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, has responded to a viral video showing a student fighting a lecturer on campus.
The university management has assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and will conduct a full investigation.
In an official statement signed by Njelita Louis O, Acting Head of Information and Public Relations, Unizik confirmed that the fight involved Dr.
Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 3rd-year student from the Department of History and International Studies.
The university emphasized that they are committed to fairness and justice. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a transparent and unbiased investigation to uncover the truth.
Unizik reassured students, staff, and the public that discipline and ethical conduct are core values of the institution. They stated that appropriate actions will be taken once the investigation is complete.
The university also urged everyone to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation while they work on resolving the matter.
Unizik promised to provide updates as necessary and reiterated its stance against indiscipline and misconduct. The management assured that the school remains a place of learning and high moral standards.
