My administration’s intolerance for criminality flushing out crimes – Mbah to new GOC

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong stance against crime, stating that security remains a top priority.

He attributed the state’s growing peace and stability to a deliberate zero-tolerance policy on criminal activities.

The governor made this known when he welcomed the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, at the Government House in Enugu. The visit was part of the GOC’s familiarization tour.

Governor Mbah emphasized that the success in fighting crime is due to close collaboration with security agencies, including community policing. He noted that a secure environment is essential for economic growth and development in Enugu and the wider South East region.

“It is difficult to discuss development without security. Our commitment is to grow the economy and reduce poverty. We identified security challenges early and took swift action to eliminate them,” Mbah stated.

He praised security agencies for their dedication, saying their efforts have encouraged more investments in the state.

According to him, Enugu’s government has invested heavily in security, deploying technology alongside manpower to maintain law and order.

Governor Mbah assured Major General Olatoye of the government’s continued support in logistics and operational needs to enhance military efforts in fighting crime.

He reiterated his commitment to eradicating criminal gangs and making Enugu an investment-friendly state.

“Our goal is to expand the economy to $30 billion within the next six years. To achieve this, we must ensure that crime has no place in our state,” he added.

In his response, Major General Olatoye commended the governor’s commitment to security.

He acknowledged the improvement in Enugu’s security compared to past situations and promised to work with the government to sustain the peace.

“All I know is that we can make things even better. My role is to strengthen the peaceful environment that already exists so that economic activities can thrive,” Olatoye said.

He urged stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that his office remains open for assistance and collaboration.

With the government and military working hand in hand, Enugu State continues to move towards a safer and more prosperous future.
