The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has told northern politicians to forget about contesting for the presidency in 2027. He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would serve two full terms.
Ganduje made this statement on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja while addressing members of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre (PBAT Media Centre) and the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF).
His comments appeared to be a response to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who hinted that the North might not support Tinubu’s second term, similar to how it treated former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Ganduje dismissed such political moves, calling them unrealistic. He insisted that the APC would follow its power-sharing agreement, ensuring leadership rotates fairly between the North and the South.
He explained that after a northern leader governed for eight years, the party worked hard to ensure the next president came from the South.
Now that Tinubu is in power, Ganduje said he would complete his two terms before power returns to the North.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s current challenges, Ganduje said many problems had existed for a long time and needed strong efforts to fix them.
He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s policies, saying they were already bringing positive changes, especially in the economy.
