EFCC hands over forfeited Nok University property and assets to FG

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, in Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.

The official transfer took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode presenting the university’s documents to the Minister of Education. Vice President Kashim Shettima and other key government officials attended the event.

A Federal High Court ruled in June 2024 that Nok University, previously owned by a private individual, should be forfeited to the government.

Following the ruling, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that the institution be converted into a Federal University of Applied Sciences. The goal is to promote education and development in Southern Kaduna, a region affected by insecurity

Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima said the takeover reflects the administration’s focus on inclusivity and national progress.

He praised President Tinubu for prioritizing the transformation of the university, making it the first decision approved by the Federal Executive Council.

Several prominent figures, including General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall, played key roles in ensuring the transition happened. The university is expected to admit its first set of students by September 2025.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani described the new Federal University of Applied Sciences as a major achievement for the people of Kaduna and Nigeria.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence in the state.

EFCC Chairman Olukayode highlighted that the assets handed over included academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center.

The Federal Executive Council had approved the transfer on February 4, 2025, making the institution fully federal.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa emphasized that this move aligns with the government’s focus on improving education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa also noted that the new university would bring long-term benefits to Southern Kaduna, improving education and fostering peace in the region.

With the new status of the university, students across Nigeria will have more opportunities for higher education in applied sciences.

The Federal Government’s intervention ensures that the institution contributes to national progress and regional stability.
