The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has rejected claims that he is running for governor of Delta State in 2027. This comes after campaign posters bearing his name and image surfaced online.
In a statement on Monday, Keyamo’s Special Assistant on Political Matters, Voke Oshasha, dismissed the posters as fake. He accused certain individuals of trying to manipulate the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta for their personal gain.
Oshasha explained that the posters are an attempt to misrepresent Keyamo’s efforts to make the party more inclusive. He stated that some people want to control Delta APC for themselves, and they are using these fake posters to spread misinformation.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” the statement read. “This is cheap blackmail by those who want to turn Delta APC into their personal estate. Their strategy is to distort the Minister’s and other leaders’ genuine efforts to open up the party for all members to participate freely.”
Keyamo, who has a long history of fighting against political oppression, is determined to ensure democracy thrives in the party.
Oshasha further stated that Keyamo and other APC leaders in Delta have built a strong alliance to strengthen the party. He emphasized that no one should be excluded from participating in the party’s affairs.
“For emphasis: no one is excluded or shut out. That is the simple message. Everyone must work collectively, rather than kneeling in someone’s village to form structures or beg for tickets,” he said.
Despite Keyamo’s denial, some political observers believe he might be testing the waters for a future governorship bid. They speculate that the posters could be a move to challenge former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, who is also rumored to have an interest in the position.
For now, Keyamo insists he has no such plans and remains focused on ensuring fairness within Delta APC.
