The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North-West zone has raised concerns over the exclusion of Christians from the newly formed board of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC).
According to a statement by Elder Sunday Oibe, the CAN North-West Chairman, the decision to leave out Christians sends the wrong message about inclusiveness in governance.
He stressed that Christians make up a significant population in all seven states of the region—Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara—and should have representation on the commission.
Oibe noted that the Christian community is deeply saddened by this omission. He recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari was often criticized for favoritism in appointments, and now, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, similar concerns about religious bias are emerging.
CAN urged President Tinubu and the National Assembly to review the NWDC board and ensure that Christians in the North-West have a voice.
The association emphasized that governance should be about fairness and inclusivity, calling for an immediate correction of the oversight.
