A heartbreaking incident happened in Orange Farm, Johannesburg, where an 18-year-old boy allegedly poisoned his 3-year-old brother. Reports say he did this to cause pain to their parents.
On January 31, 2025, the children’s mother was at home with her three sons, aged 18, 16, and 22. She noticed that her youngest son was missing but assumed he was playing at a neighbor’s house. However, when he hadn’t returned by 1 PM, she started searching for him.
Later that afternoon, around 4 PM, the 16-year-old brother went to a nearby field to feed his goats. There, he saw his older brother placing the toddler’s body inside a dustbin.
Shocked, he confronted him and immediately took the dustbin home to inform their mother.
Emergency services were called, but the little boy was already dead when they arrived.
The next day, the 18-year-old suspect turned himself in to the police. He allegedly admitted that he had poisoned his younger brother using rat poison.
When their father confronted him about the incident, the teenager reportedly said he did it to make their parents suffer.
The suspect appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on February 4, 2025. His bail application hearing is set for February 13, 2025.
This tragic event has left the family and community in shock, raising concerns about mental health and family relationships.
