The Opposition Coalition has dismissed claims that the Supreme Court ruled against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Speaker Oko Jumbo.
Spokesperson Ikenga Ugochinyere clarified that the recent court verdict was not a loss for Fubara but rather a decision based on his voluntary withdrawal of an appeal regarding the 2024 budget.
Ugochinyere explained that Fubara withdrew his appeal because the 2024 budget had already been spent and executed.
Since the budget cycle had ended, there was no reason to continue the legal case. The Supreme Court simply struck out the appeal based on this withdrawal.
He also confirmed that Speaker Oko Jumbo is still in control of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He dismissed claims that the pro-Wike lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, had gained any legal victory. According to him, those celebrating are misinterpreting the Supreme Court’s decision.
Ugochinyere urged the media to verify legal matters before reporting and avoid spreading misleading information.
He encouraged Governor Fubara to stay focused on governance and ignore political distractions.
He reassured the people of Rivers State that there is no change in leadership and that the opposition remains strong against any false narratives.
