Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico has taken in almost 11,000 migrants deported from the United States since January 20, when President Donald Trump took office. Among them, about 2,500 are not Mexican citizens.
Earlier this week, Sheinbaum made an agreement with Trump to prevent tariffs on Mexican goods. In return, Mexico agreed to send more National Guard officers to its northern border to help reduce the number of migrants heading to the U.S.
At her morning press conference, Sheinbaum also shared that Mexico is helping deported migrants return to Honduras through flights and ground transportation. She assured that these returns are voluntary.
“It’s voluntary. We will accompany them so they can go to their home countries,” she said.
