Creation of additional states may render existing ones redundant – APC chieftain warns

A top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Nurain Abayomi Mumuni, has warned that creating 31 new states in Nigeria could cause more problems than solutions.

He believes this move might make some existing states less useful and put more pressure on the country’s finances.

Mumuni shared his concerns in a statement through his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar. His reaction comes after the House of Representatives recently announced that it had received proposals to create additional states.

Nigeria is already struggling with serious economic issues, including:

  • High unemployment rates
  • Rising inflation
  • Poor infrastructure

Mumuni pointed out that many states are still struggling to pay workers and provide basic services.

Adding more states would only increase government expenses, taking money away from important development projects.

Instead of creating new states, Mumuni urged lawmakers to focus on improving the existing ones. He believes that strengthening current states will lead to:

  • Better economic growth
  • Improved infrastructure
  • Higher quality of life for citizens

He emphasized that Nigeria’s leaders should focus on unity, peace, and good governance rather than making changes that might not truly help the people.

Mumuni has called on lawmakers to drop the plan to create 31 new states. He urged them to focus on solving the country’s pressing economic problems and making life better for Nigerians.

According to him, the goal should be long-term development, not short-term political changes.
