President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He accused the organization of making “illegitimate and baseless” charges against the U.S. and its ally, Israel.
These sanctions come after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in May 2024.
The ICC claims that Netanyahu is involved in war crimes during the Israel-Hamas conflict, but Israel denies these accusations. The warrant was influenced by Karim Khan, a senior ICC official from the U.K.
As part of the sanctions, the U.S. will impose financial penalties and travel restrictions on ICC officials. If Netanyahu were to visit countries like France or the U.K., he could be arrested.
The ICC has also issued arrest warrants for top Hamas leaders, many of whom have been killed.
While signing the order, Trump emphasized that the U.S. would hold the ICC accountable for these actions. Netanyahu, who was in Washington D.C. at the time, met with Trump and other U.S. officials.
In addition to sanctioning the ICC, Trump signed another executive order to create a task force to fight “anti-Christian bias.”
This task force, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, will review government actions under President Joe Biden to find policies that may discriminate against Christians. The task force will work with faith-based groups and submit reports on its findings in the next 120 days.
