Popular Nigerian singer, Portable, is reportedly on the run as the Ogun State Government takes legal action against nine of his associates. They were taken to court for allegedly attacking officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The suspects appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. The police accused them of using dangerous weapons like cutlasses and guns to assault government officials. They were charged with crimes including violence, obstruction, and intent to kill.
The nine accused individuals—aged between 19 and 28—pleaded not guilty to all charges. The police stated that the attack happened on Wednesday morning at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Portable, who is currently missing, was also accused of stopping and assaulting town planners while they were doing their job at his business, Odogwu Bar.
The court granted bail to the defendants at N5 million each, with sureties registered with the state government. The case will continue on March 17.
The dispute reportedly began when the government sealed Portable’s uncompleted hotel and building due to illegal construction without proper approval.
The singer had earlier criticized the officials for arresting his customers and damaging his bar.
With Portable still missing, the authorities may take further action to ensure he faces the law.
