A Florida man celebrating his birthday was shot and killed in front of his 1-year-old son after an argument with a stranger in a pharmacy.
Anthony Souvenir, 27, went to a Miramar pharmacy with his girlfriend and young son on February 3. While inside, he accused 28-year-old Jaime Taylor of staring at his girlfriend.
Taylor was adding money to his Cash App when Souvenir confronted him. After a brief exchange, Souvenir walked away. However, he later misunderstood Taylor’s phone call, thinking it was directed at him.
Taylor reportedly told Souvenir, “I’m not even talking to you, I’m on the phone,” but the situation quickly escalated.
During the argument, Souvenir noticed Taylor had a gun and said, “I see you got one; I got one too.” Feeling threatened, Taylor pulled out his gun but did not fire. However, when Souvenir reached for his bag, Taylor shot him.
Taylor fled the scene but later turned himself in to Miramar police. He was charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail.
Souvenir’s mother, Linda, described him as a loving father with big dreams for his son. She is also battling pancreatic cancer, making the loss even harder on the family.
His father, Yves, called the shooting senseless and urged people to resolve conflicts without using guns.
“People have too many guns. If you have a problem, call the police,” he said.
The tragedy has left a family grieving and a young child without his father.
