President Trump to sign executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Wednesday that bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

The order will direct federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, to enforce Title IX rules in a way that prevents transgender girls and women from joining female sports teams.

The order, called “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” will require immediate action. Schools and sports organizations must follow the new policy, or they could face legal consequences.

It also requires State attorneys general to create guidelines for enforcing the ban.

A senior White House official said they expect major sports organizations like the NCAA to update their rules in line with the new order.

NCAA President Charlie Baker has previously said that having clear federal rules on this issue would help sports organizations.

Trump will sign the order at a special event with athletes, coaches, and advocates who support banning transgender athletes from women’s sports.

More than 60 people, including former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, are expected to attend.

May Mailman, a senior policy strategist for the White House, said the goal of the order is to protect women’s sports.

She explained that the order will roll back Biden-era policies that allowed transgender athletes to compete based on their gender identity.

Mailman also mentioned that schools and universities that do not follow the order risk losing federal funding and facing lawsuits from female students.

The Human Rights Campaign, a leading LGBTQ+ advocacy group, criticized the executive order. Its president, Kelley Robinson, said the order could increase discrimination and harassment.

She argued that sports should be about teamwork, dedication, and belonging, not about excluding certain students.

With this order, schools and sports organizations must comply or risk serious legal and financial consequences.

The new rule is expected to bring significant changes to how sports are organized across the country.
