A violent clash erupted between the people of Ido-Ijesa and Esa-Oke in Osun State, leaving seven police officers wounded. The unrest followed the appointment of Prince Timileyin Ajayi as the new Olojudo (king) of Ido-Ajegunle by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The decision to appoint Prince Ajayi sparked anger in the town of Esa-Oke, which is located near Ido-Ajegunle. Residents of Esa-Oke opposed the appointment, arguing that Prince Ajayi is from Ilesa and not from their community.
Tensions grew further when vigilantes brought in by the new monarch were arrested by the police just days before the clash. This incident is believed to have played a part in causing the violence.
Yemisi Opalola, spokesperson for the Osun State Police, confirmed that seven officers were ambushed and injured while trying to restore order. Security forces remain in the area to maintain peace and prevent further violence.
