Rwandan President Paul Kagame has declared that Rwanda is ready to face South Africa if a confrontation arises. This statement comes after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa accused Rwanda’s military and M23 rebels of causing the deaths of 13 South African soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In his response, Kagame explained that Ramaphosa had never warned Rwanda about any military actions but had instead asked for logistical help, while acknowledging South Africa’s peace efforts in the region. Kagame also stated that South Africa is not in a position to mediate peace or act as a peacemaker. He warned that if South Africa chooses to confront Rwanda, Rwanda will be prepared to respond.
