As preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election intensify, the leadership of the Obidient Movement has set up an advisory council. The newly appointed council members, including regional and diaspora representatives, are expected to help expand the movement and attract more supporters.
Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, confirmed the development in a press statement. He highlighted how the movement has successfully engaged voters, challenged the dominance of major political parties, and encouraged youth participation in politics.
What began as a grassroots effort to reform Nigeria’s political landscape has grown into a powerful movement that resonates with citizens frustrated by corruption, insecurity, and economic struggles. It has inspired people across Africa, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and positive change.
The movement promotes volunteerism and civic engagement, bringing together Nigerians from different backgrounds, political affiliations, and beliefs. Its goal is to unite people under a shared vision for national progress.
However, not everyone is on board with the new advisory council. Hilda Dokubo, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State, publicly declined her inclusion in the council. She stated that she was not consulted before her name appeared on the list.
Dokubo emphasized her loyalty to the Labour Party’s leadership under Barrister Julius Abure and explained that taking up a role in the advisory council would conflict with her position. She also called for unity within the party, aligning with Abure’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Labour Party.
In her statement, Dokubo requested that her name be removed from the list, expressing hope that the party would focus on reconciliation rather than division.
As the Obidient Movement continues to grow, its influence on Nigerian politics remains strong. With the 2027 elections approaching, the movement aims to drive meaningful political change, while party leaders like Dokubo emphasize the need for unity within their ranks.
