Notorious kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, better known as Evans, has been re-arraigned on fresh charges in Lagos. He is accused of murdering two police officers and attempting to kidnap Chief Obianodo Vincent, the owner of Young Shall Grow Transport Company.
On January 30, 2025, Evans appeared before an Ikeja High Court alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka. They both pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge of murder and attempted kidnapping before Justice Adenike Coker.
Evans has a history of serious crimes. In February 2022, an Ikeja High Court sentenced him to life in prison for kidnapping Chief Donatus Dunu, the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Later that year, in September, another judge sentenced him to 21 years for abducting businessman Chief Slyvanus Ahamonu and collecting a $420,000 ransom.
Despite being jailed, Evans is still facing multiple trials for other kidnapping cases. His latest trial suffered a delay on October 10, 2024, because his lawyer was absent in court.
There are reports that Evans may plead guilty to the amended charges. The prosecution told the court that he had applied for a plea bargain, which could lead to a reduced sentence.
The case is still ongoing, and many Nigerians are closely watching to see what happens next in the trial of one of the country’s most feared criminals.
