Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that goalkeeper David Raya may not be available for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City due to an injury. Raya was absent during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Girona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
With Raya sidelined, new signing Neto made his debut for Arsenal, having joined on loan from Bournemouth for the season. Unfortunately, Neto made an error that allowed Girona to take the lead in the 28th minute through Arnaut Danjuma. Despite this, Arsenal quickly responded, with Jorginho equalizing with a penalty and teenager Ethan Nwaneri scoring a stunning goal to seal the win.
Arteta did not reveal the full details of Raya’s injury but mentioned, “He certainly could not play, and he’s injured, and that’s it. We’ll see how it improves.”
When asked about the possibility of Neto stepping in for an extended period, Arteta expressed confidence, saying, “Yes, that’s why he’s here, to do that job. He’s done it for 20 years in his career. I’m happy that he played, especially after not having played a competitive match for almost eight months. I’m pleased with the win and his performance.”
