Four Arrested In Anambra For Burning 74-Year-Old Woman To Death

A shocking incident in Abagana, Anambra State, has led to the arrest of four people for burning a 74-year-old woman to death. The incident occurred on Saturday in Dunukofia Local Government Area, leaving the community in disbelief.

According to reports, the victim, who used a wheelchair, was set on fire by a group of individuals believed to be acting on ritual motives. After committing the act, the attackers quickly procured a coffin and buried the woman.

The Anambra State Police Command has identified the suspects as Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), Ikenna Anene (54), and Chinenye Ekwenugo (21). During interrogation, Chinenye admitted that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is still at large, led the attack along with three other accomplices.

In a press statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that security operatives intervened before the burial could be completed. The victim’s body has since been moved to the morgue for an autopsy as investigations continue.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the main suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe, and uncover the full details behind this gruesome act. The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has assured the public that justice will prevail. He has also called for calm as the police work to bring all culprits to justice.

This tragic event has raised concerns about security and ritual-related crimes in the area, sparking calls for stronger measures to protect vulnerable members of society.
