President Bola Tinubu to Travel for Energy Summit
President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit. The event, scheduled for January 27 and 28, 2025, will focus on energy access across Africa.
The Tanzanian government, in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, is hosting the summit. The main objective is to promote “Mission 300,” an ambitious initiative aimed at providing electricity to 300 million Africans by the year 2030.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser, stated that the summit will gather African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organizations. The participants will work together to share expertise and resources to tackle Africa’s energy challenges.
The summit will focus on improving energy access in underserved areas, advancing renewable energy solutions, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector investments. On the first day, countries including Nigeria will present their national energy strategies, known as compacts, which outline their plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years
On the second day, Heads of State will approve the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will serve as a shared roadmap for Africa’s progress towards the Mission 300 goals.
President Tinubu will deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy sector. He will also highlight Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and strategies to improve energy delivery across the continent
Joining President Tinubu on the trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials. The President is expected to return to Abuja after the summit.
