Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has raised her voice against the alarming trend of men killing their partners over alleged infidelity. This follows the tragic case of Mrs. Chioma Nwaka, who was set on fire by her husband, Obiozor Nwaka, in Anambra after he suspected her of cheating.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, Silva, 63, expressed her outrage at these acts of violence and strongly advocated for life sentences for men who kill their partners under such circumstances. She described these actions as a serious crime, emphasizing that the law should ensure the perpetrators are held accountable.
Silva questioned the fairness of the situation, saying, “Men cheat all the time, but do they face such extreme consequences? Where is the proof that the woman cheated? And what about the man she allegedly cheated with?”
She also urged men to leave their partners peacefully if they suspect infidelity instead of resorting to violence. “Why not just leave? Why not send her back to her parents? If you investigate, you might find that the killer has cheated many times but chooses to end his partner’s life over one mistake.”
The actress reminded everyone that the women who lost their lives were mothers and daughters, deserving of respect and justice. She also touched on the role of the entertainment industry, saying that advocacy alone isn’t enough—stronger actions, including legal consequences for such behavior, are necessary.
This powerful statement highlights the need for justice and change to protect women from domestic violence.
