The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has once again urged Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC.
In a statement following a recent meeting in Abuja, the Forum, led by its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, praised Mutfwang’s achievements as governor and called on him to align with the APC ahead of its next congress. The Forum emphasized that joining the ruling party would strengthen his collaboration with President Bola Tinubu and enhance development in Plateau State and the North-Central region.
This latest invitation follows earlier efforts by the Forum. In April 2024, the group formally invited Mutfwang shortly after the Supreme Court confirmed his election victory. A closed-door meeting was also held in March 2024 to strategize on bringing him into the APC.
Despite rumors in December 2024 that Mutfwang had defected—fueled by his photo appearing alongside APC governors—he reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
The APC Forum, however, remains persistent. It highlighted the ongoing crises within the PDP and warned that these issues could derail Mutfwang’s political future, especially in the 2027 elections.
“The PDP is drowning, and Governor Mutfwang should not sink with it,” the Forum stated. It further stressed that joining the APC would align Plateau with the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and ensure streamlined development across the North-Central zone.
The Forum urged Mutfwang to accept their invitation and take up leadership of the APC in Plateau State, stating that this move would allow him to better serve the people while working closely with the federal government.
This renewed effort is part of the APC’s larger strategy to strengthen its foothold in Plateau State and the region as a whole. Will Governor Mutfwang take the leap? Only time will tell.
