Cybercrimes: Immigration arrests 90 foreigners in Rivers

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Rivers State has taken significant action against cybercrimes by arresting 90 foreigners suspected of scamming innocent Nigerians. This operation, carried out with the support of other security agencies, targeted the suspects’ hideouts in the state.

According to YI Abdulmajeed, the Rivers State Comptroller of the NIS, a total of 94 individuals were apprehended. Out of these, 85 are Cameroonians, five are Chadians, and four are Nigerians. The group included 74 men and 20 women.

Investigations revealed that all 90 foreigners entered Nigeria through unauthorized routes. None of them could provide valid residence permits or travel documents during questioning.

Additionally, two Nigerians who rented out accommodation to these suspects were also arrested for aiding their illegal activities. The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has instructed that the foreigners be repatriated to their home countries promptly.

The NIS continues to work diligently to safeguard the country from illegal immigration and cybercrimes.
