The Nigerian Army is intensifying its efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking in Taraba State. Troops from the 6 Brigade, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), arrested a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Adamu Usman, on January 13, 2025, in the Gassol Local Government Area.
Acting spokesperson for the brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, revealed that the operation was based on credible intelligence. Soldiers conducted a precise raid on the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol. During the search, they discovered an illegally fabricated submachine gun, believed to be linked to arms trafficking activities.
The commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism in carrying out the operation. He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and addressing the illegal spread of firearms in the region.
Brigadier General Uwa urged residents to assist security agencies by providing credible information that could help tackle security challenges effectively. This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s dedication to ensuring safety and stability in Taraba State.
