A police officer in Kebbi State has earned praise for rejecting a bribe of ₦1.06 million offered by suspected bandit collaborators.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the incident occurred on January 13, 2025. Three men—Umaru Garba, Alhaji Abubakar Mamman, and Usman Muhammadu—approached the lead investigator at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi. They attempted to bribe the officer to stop the investigation into banditry activities allegedly carried out by Lakurawa terrorists in the northern region of the state.
Rather than taking the bribe, the officer reported the incident, leading to the suspects’ immediate arrest. The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that the case is still under investigation, and the suspects will be prosecuted in court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M Sani, praised the officer’s professionalism and called on others in the force to emulate such integrity. He also reiterated the police’s commitment to tackling banditry and other crimes to create a safer environment for the people of Kebbi State.
This act of integrity reflects the ongoing efforts by Nigerian law enforcement to combat corruption and protect the nation’s security.
