A tragic event occurred in Gargajiga town, Minjibir Local Government Area, Kano State, on Thursday, when a well collapsed during repair work. The collapse claimed the life of one person and left two others injured.
“Three people were involved: one inside the well and two outside. The sides of the well gave way, causing it to collapse and burying all three individuals,” the statement read.
The incident was reported to the Kano State Fire Service by a local resident, Bashir Namadi. The Fire Service responded quickly and arrived at the scene around 12:20 PM. Their emergency rescue team worked to assist the victims.
“They successfully rescued two individuals alive, but unfortunately, one person, identified as Yusuf Nadabo, aged 50, was recovered unconscious and later pronounced dead,” the statement confirmed.
The injured individuals were rescued and have since been handed over to the ward head of Gargajiga town for further arrangements. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, which took place while workers were re-digging and repairing the well.
This unfortunate event highlights the dangers of construction and repair work, particularly when dealing with old structures like wells. Local authorities urge residents to be cautious during such activities to prevent further accidents.
