Joe Kinnear, a legendary football manager and former player, passed away at 77, leaving his entire estate of £833,000 to his wife, Bonnie. Known for his dedication to football, Kinnear’s life was marked by triumphs on the pitch and challenges off it.

Diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2015, Kinnear’s health gradually deteriorated. His family believes the condition was caused by repeated head injuries during his 11-year career as a defender. An autopsy revealed he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to brain trauma. His grieving daughter, Russ Duffman, said, “We feel like his career caused his death,” adding that the autopsy provided some clarity despite the pain.

Kinnear’s football journey began in Dublin, where he was born to a family rooted in working-class traditions. Moving to Watford at seven, he quickly made a name for himself as a talented young player. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1963 and played 258 matches, winning the FA Cup, League Cups, and a UEFA Cup. He also earned 26 international caps for the Republic of Ireland.

After retiring at 30 due to injuries, Kinnear transitioned into coaching. He managed several teams, including Wimbledon, where he achieved remarkable success. Under his leadership, Wimbledon finished sixth in the Premier League during the 1993–94 season, earning him three Premier League Manager of the Month awards.

Despite his career being cut short by a heart attack in 1999, Kinnear’s impact on football remained undeniable. His later management stints, including at Newcastle United, showcased his resilience and passion for the sport.

Kinnear’s family shared that he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. His legacy as a football player, manager, and family man endures, inspiring future generations.
