The Warri Refinery is back in action! After years of being out of operation, the refinery resumed work on Monday, a development that has been celebrated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and millions of Nigerians.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has worked hard to restore the refinery, which is now operating at 60% of its 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity. This achievement is part of the government’s larger plan to ensure energy efficiency and security for the nation.
President Tinubu expressed his happiness over the refinery’s reopening, calling it a significant success for 2024. “The restart of Warri Refinery brings joy to me and Nigerians. It builds hope and confidence for a brighter future,” he said.
The Warri Refinery will now focus on producing key products like kerosene, automotive gas oil, and naphtha, helping meet Nigeria’s domestic energy demands. Tinubu also praised NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and his team for their dedication in restoring the refinery and strengthening Nigeria’s position as a leading oil producer.
This milestone follows the recent restart of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which began processing 60,000 barrels per day on November 26, 2025. Tinubu emphasized the need for NNPCL to accelerate repairs on the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery to further boost Nigeria’s energy production capabilities.
