Donald Trump has shut down rumors that billionaire Elon Musk could become the president of the United States.
During a speech in Arizona, Trump made it clear: “Elon Musk is not going to be president. You know why? He wasn’t born in this country.” He described the speculation as a “hoax” spread by political opponents.
The statement followed President Joe Biden’s signing of a funding bill to avoid a government shutdown. Both Musk and Trump had criticized the bill, which was backed by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), has been a vocal supporter of Trump. After a shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, Musk publicly endorsed him. Reports also revealed Musk donated $200 million to a Political Action Committee (PAC) supporting Trump’s election campaign.
Despite Musk’s support and growing influence in politics, Trump firmly rejected the idea of Musk ever taking on the presidency, citing constitutional rules that require U.S. presidents to be born in the country.
