In a heartbreaking incident, some unidentified youths have set fire to the only primary school in the Kandahar area of Bauchi metropolis. This unfortunate event has left many children in the community without a place to learn as schools are preparing to reopen in 2025.
The fire broke out on Friday after a disagreement between locals, although the reasons for the altercation remain unclear. Despite efforts from residents to stop the fire, the school was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Residents are understandably upset, as this was the only school available to children in the area. With the school now burned to the ground, children have been left without a place to study when the new school year begins.
The State Government has quickly condemned the act, describing it as a cruel and barbaric action that sets back the progress of education in the region. In response, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Adamu Muhammad Duguri, has promised a thorough investigation into the incident. He assured the public that those responsible would be held accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, Duguri emphasized the need for everyone to collaborate and ensure that schools remain safe spaces for children. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving education in Bauchi, including plans to build and renovate schools across the state.
This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of maintaining peace in communities and the need to protect vital infrastructure like schools, which are crucial for the future of children and society.
