Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has taken a significant step to support traditional rulers in the state by approving a monthly stipend of N250,000. This announcement was made by Eze Linus Nto Mba, the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, in a statement expressing gratitude to the Governor.
The new monthly package will take effect from December 2024, ensuring that traditional rulers across Abia State receive the funds as part of efforts to enhance their welfare. According to Eze Mba, this monthly stipend is separate from the N150,000 Christmas bonus recently approved for over 500 traditional rulers in the state.
While most traditional rulers will receive N250,000 monthly, Eze Mba noted that rulers in Aba South Local Government Area would receive a different amount. The reasons for this adjustment were not disclosed, but the council assured that every ruler would benefit from the Governor’s generous initiative.
Eze Mba emphasized the cordial relationship between the traditional institution and Governor Otti’s administration. He pointed out that previous governments had not given traditional rulers the same level of recognition and respect. This new policy demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to fostering mutual respect and collaboration with the traditional council.
The traditional rulers also pledged their unwavering support to Governor Otti’s administration. Eze Mba assured the Governor that they would work diligently to maintain peace and security in their communities by helping to eradicate criminal activities.
