A devastating road accident in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has left the community in shock. On Friday, three policemen and a female suspect lost their lives when a truck rammed into their vehicle.
The police officers, part of the state’s monitoring unit, were traveling from Akure to make an arrest in Ore. Tragically, the truck lost control while descending the Ore Bridge and crashed into their vehicle. According to witnesses, the accident was so severe that the officers and the suspect died on the spot.
One officer who survived the crash sustained serious injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical care.
“With the heavy noise emanating from the accident, everyone rushed to the scene, and on getting there we realised that the occupants were policemen. Three of them died on the spot, and one sustained injuries,” he said.
“The one that sustained injuries was rushed to the hospital. It was later that we had information that the lady that also died in the accident was a suspect who the police officers had come to arrest from Akure.”
As of now, the identities of the deceased have not been revealed. Speaking about the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said the command will soon issue an official statement. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has also assured the public of a detailed report on the cause of the accident.
This tragedy highlights the need for improved road safety measures and vehicle maintenance to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
