Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has launched the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS), a major step toward modernizing land administration and improving ease of doing business in the state.
The system, which went live on Monday, is designed to simplify how people apply for land titles, conduct searches, and manage land-related activities. Governor Mbah emphasized that with ENGIS, land processes can now be completed online within 48 hours, bringing efficiency and transparency to land management.
The governor explained that ENGIS is part of his vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. By digitalizing land processes, ENGIS eliminates common issues such as land grabbing, unauthorized construction, and double allocations.
“This system marks the end of delays, revenue leakages, and mistrust in land transactions,” Governor Mbah stated. “Residents can now apply for land titles from the comfort of their homes and get results quickly.”
The system is also expected to attract investors by improving Enugu State’s ease of doing business. Simplified land processes and transparent transactions will build investor confidence and encourage development.
Dr. Cyril Ezeama, the Coordinator of ENGIS, explained that the system is projected to generate an estimated N300 billion annually for the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR). “It’s the first of its kind in Nigeria, allowing people to complete land applications entirely online,” he said.
Governor Mbah’s administration has prioritized digital transformation to improve governance and economic growth. The ENGIS project demonstrates this commitment, ensuring that land management is efficient, transparent, and accessible.
The launch of ENGIS was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and professional bodies, all of whom praised the initiative. They expressed support for the governor’s efforts to modernize Enugu State and drive development.
With ENGIS in place, Enugu State is now fully open for business, offering an efficient system that benefits residents, businesses, and investors alike.
