NAFDAC Issues Recall for Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg Capsule Batch

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced a recall for a batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg Capsules due to reports of serious side effects. The capsules, made by Ecomed Pharma Ltd and distributed by Devine Kings Pharmaceutical Ltd, have the lot number 4C639001.

Amoxicillin is a common antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. However, the batch in question is being recalled after some users experienced dangerous reactions to the drug.

“According to Ecomed Pharma Ltd, reports of serious adverse drug reactions were received from a hospital that reported three cases of serious adverse drug reactions from patients administered with the batch of Deekins Amoxycillin 500mg capsule.” the statement released states

NAFDAC has warned that these reactions could be life-threatening. Some may require hospitalization, cause long-term health problems, or, in severe cases, even lead to death. The affected batch has a manufacturing date of March 2024, an expiration date of February 2027, and the lot number 4C639001.

The agency is asking healthcare providers, distributors, and patients to be careful and avoid using the affected batch. NAFDAC also encourages anyone who has experienced side effects or other health issues from this product to report them using the online platform on the NAFDAC website or to their nearest NAFDAC office.

“All medical products must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.

Anyone in possession of the affected lot is advised to immediately discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
