Oyebanji Distributes ₦146 Million Compensation to 46 Landowners for Agriculture

On Saturday, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, distributed cheques totaling ₦146 million to 46 landowners from Oke Ako Ekiti, whose land was acquired for an agricultural project aimed at boosting commercial farming. The land, which covers 4,000 hectares, is being used for the “Bring Back the Youth in Agriculture” initiative in partnership with YSP Farm.

The project is designed to engage young people in agribusiness, create job opportunities, and foster economic growth in the region. As part of the initiative, the Governor also launched various agricultural tools, including tractors and processing equipment, for the young farmers.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oyebanji expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress, noting that despite some delays, the land acquisition issues had been resolved. He explained that the compensation payments were delayed to allow for the assessment of the economic trees affected by the land acquisition. He assured that a second round of compensation would soon take place.

Governor Oyebanji highlighted the significance of Oke Ako in Ekiti State’s agricultural development. He emphasized that the region would serve as a hub for training tractor drivers, assembling tractors, and repairing agricultural equipment. The Governor also stated that the project would result in the improvement of infrastructure, including roads, healthcare, and small industries, further enhancing the local economy.

The Governor thanked the people of Oke Ako, particularly the Regent, Princess Tinuade Ogunbiyi, for their cooperation in the project. He also encouraged the community to support YSP Farm, the investor involved in the agricultural initiative.

Governor Oyebanji noted that the agribusiness project had led to a reduction in crime in the area, as the land once used by criminals for hiding is now being cultivated for farming. He emphasized that while development can bring some challenges, the long-term benefits of the project would outweigh any temporary difficulties.

The Governor’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment and youth empowerment in Ekiti State remains a key focus of his administration. With this agricultural project, Ekiti is set to become a leading agricultural center in Nigeria.
