The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The decision was made during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday, November 3, following a detailed review by the Committee on Army.
Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the Chairman of the Committee, presented the screening report to the Senate. He expressed satisfaction with Oluyede’s credentials, which demonstrated a strong understanding of military operations, significant achievements, and a high level of excellence.
Yar’adua explained that the nomination complied with the Nigerian Constitution and the Armed Forces Act. He added that Oluyede had been thoroughly vetted, including clearance by the Department of State Services (DSS), and followed all necessary procedures during his military promotions.
The committee praised Oluyede for his competence, experience, and educational qualifications, stating that he was well-suited for the role of COAS. Based on these findings, the Senate unanimously confirmed his appointment.
