The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a secret gun-making factory allegedly operated by a family involved in manufacturing and selling illegal firearms.
This discovery was announced by the Commissioner of Police, Joseph O. Eribo, during a press briefing in Uyo. Acting on reliable intelligence, police officers raided the facility and arrested one suspect, David Nse Emmanuel. Unfortunately, other suspects, including the main operator Akpan Nse Emmanuel and his sons, fled the scene before the police arrived.
The raid led to the recovery of several weapons and tools used in making firearms, including:
- Seven single-barrel guns
- Five double-barrel guns
- One steel double-trigger pistol
- A broken single-barrel gun
- A walking stick knife with a hidden trigger
- Iron pipes used to craft gun barrels
CP Eribo assured the public that efforts are ongoing to capture the fleeing suspects and trace the individuals who may have purchased weapons from the factory. He reiterated the police’s commitment to eliminating illegal firearms in the state to enhance public safety.
The Akwa Ibom Police Command encourages residents to report suspicious activities to help authorities prevent crimes and maintain security. This operation demonstrates the importance of vigilance in tackling illegal weapon production and distribution.
The raid serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearms and the need for law enforcement agencies to remain proactive.
