The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved N1.1 billion in compensation for property owners whose buildings are being affected by the ongoing Kuje Airport Road construction. The road project, which will be a six-lane dual carriageway, aims to improve transportation from Airport Road to Kuje.
Wike made this announcement on Tuesday in Abuja after inspecting about 13 buildings along the road that need to be demolished. He said the compensation would be paid immediately to ensure the project stays on track.
“I wanted to see the properties for myself before giving approval for the compensation,” Wike explained. “Now that I’ve seen them, I’m happy with the assessment, and I will approve the payment to avoid any delays in the project.”
Along with the road project, Wike also reviewed the progress of other major construction works, including the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and the Asuquo Okon feeder road. He confirmed that the Court of Appeal complex is expected to be completed by September 2025, and the feeder road by May 2025.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of these projects, stating that he was confident they would meet the planned completion dates.
