The much-anticipated 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) are set to begin in Abuja today with an exciting opening ceremony. Nigerian music stars D’banj, Yemi Alade, Olamide, and Timi Dakolo will perform live, bringing their vibrant energy to the event. The ceremony will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, which will also host 19 different sporting activities over the course of the games. These sports will be part of a massive competition with 25 countries participating, though obstacle crossing and shooting events will be held elsewhere.
The games, organized by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and the International Military Sports Council (CISM), aim to bring together military athletes from across Africa. Notably, D’banj has a history of performing at significant sports events, having previously taken the stage at the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) closing ceremony in South Africa, where the Nigerian Super Eagles triumphed. Yemi Alade, another popular Nigerian artist, also performed at the opening ceremony of the last AFCON in Ivory Coast, further solidifying her status as a major figure in African music.
