Truck Driver Flees After Killing Revenue Collector on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A tragic accident occurred recently on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a truck driver allegedly killed a revenue collector. The incident took place near New Garage, inbound to Lagos, while the revenue collector was attempting to collect dues from the driver. The truck, with the registration number FST 887 XD, struck the collector and immediately fled the scene.

The victim was crossing the expressway when the truck hit him, leading to his instant death. Personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly responded to the scene, managing the aftermath of the incident and clearing the area. They also ensured the removal of the truck, which had caused significant traffic congestion. The vehicle was handed over to the police for further investigation.

LASTMA officials then respectfully handed over the remains of the deceased to the police, who are working with the family to complete the necessary formalities. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed his condolences to the family and stressed the importance of educating transport unions on safer ways to collect dues, particularly in high-risk areas such as expressways.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by revenue collectors in busy areas and calls for better safety measures to protect them while carrying out their duties.
