The Kano royal palace was buzzing with excitement on Friday as friends, family, and dignitaries gathered for the turbaning of DSP Aminu Sanusi Lamido as the new Ciroman Kano. The prestigious ceremony was led by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, making Aminu the 17th person to hold the title in the history of the Kano Emirate.
The title of Ciroma is a traditional and highly respected position in the Kano Emirate, often held by the crown prince and heir apparent. It comes with important responsibilities, such as overseeing specific districts within the Emirate. DSP Aminu’s grandfather, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, held this same title until his passing in the 1990s. Most recently, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero served as Ciroma before becoming the Emir of Bichi.
At the ceremony, Emir Sanusi II spoke fondly of his son, highlighting his loyalty, philanthropy, and contributions to the community. He praised Aminu’s education, his service in the police force, and his role at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The Emir encouraged his son to follow the example of his ancestors, living a life of discipline and respect.
In his acceptance speech, DSP Aminu Sanusi expressed his gratitude to the Emir and God for the honor. He promised to serve the Kano Emirate with dedication and to uphold the values that the title represents.
The event attracted several prominent figures, including the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, as well as clerics, traditional leaders, and business figures from across the state. It was a proud day for the Kano Emirate, marking the continuation of a significant royal tradition.
