Simi Drey, the award-winning British-Nigerian actress and media personality, recently shared why she decided to call off her engagement in an emotional interview on the WithChude podcast. In her conversation, Simi opened up about her relationship and how she realized she wasn’t truly happy even after getting engaged.

Simi explained that while her ex-fiance never cheated or was abusive, she simply wasn’t fulfilled in the relationship. She said, “You know when you are not 100% fulfilled or happy.” Though she was in a society where marriage is seen as very important, Simi felt something was missing.

Simi’s mother, who was close to her, also had concerns about the engagement. When Simi shared the news, her mom expressed doubt, saying, “Simi, don’t do this.” Despite this, Simi reassured her mom that everything was okay. However, deep down, she wasn’t sure if she was making the right choice.

After a period of reflection, Simi spoke with her fiancé and suggested they work on their relationship first before thinking about marriage. A month later, she realized she didn’t want to marry him. She ended the engagement, even though it brought criticism from people around her.

Looking back, Simi shared a powerful lesson: being single and happy was far better than being in a marriage that didn’t make her happy. She emphasized that for her, respect and equality in a relationship were key, and she couldn’t settle for less.
