PDP Raises ₦11.5 Billion from Nomination Forms, Levies, and Member Contributions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raised a remarkable ₦11.5 billion in early 2023 to fund its activities for the general elections. This revenue came from the sale of nomination forms, as well as levies and dues paid by party members, including aspirants and officeholders. The funds supported PDP’s extensive campaign efforts and were part of a financial report submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as required by Nigeria’s Electoral Act.

The financial report shows that a significant portion of this income came from fees paid by individuals seeking nominations for major positions—presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly. Between February and March, these fees made up the bulk of PDP’s revenue.

Out of the total funds, ₦7.9 billion was directed towards key campaign activities, including organizing state congresses and the PDP national convention. Breaking down the spending further, the party allocated ₦3.1 billion specifically for state congresses and the national convention, while ₦1.7 billion went to states and individual candidates to support their campaign efforts.

The financial report, prepared by PDP’s Director of Finance Ismaila Yunusa Alkali and signed by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, also lists several other campaign expenses. For example, ₦72.07 million was set aside for allowances to party agents, ₦233.4 million went towards training and workshops, and ₦166.5 million covered personnel costs. Additionally, logistics such as bus rentals cost ₦27.7 million, while travel expenses, including aircraft rentals, came to ₦693 million. Another significant expense was ₦370 million for door-to-door voter mobilization.

With such a detailed financial plan, the PDP showed its commitment to organizing and funding a wide-reaching campaign. The submitted report gives a full breakdown of income and expenses, showing how the funds were managed for the 2023 election.
