Vincent Otse, widely known online as “Very Dark Man” (VDM), appeared at Ikeja High Court on Thursday, where he faced a defamation lawsuit filed by prominent Nigerian lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician Folarin Falana, also known as Falz.
Dressed in traditional Edo attire, VDM arrived at the court amid cheers from his supporters. The legal battle stems from a video VDM posted online on September 24, where he allegedly made defamatory comments about Falana and his son.
The court had previously ordered VDM to remove the video, with the notice of the lawsuit officially delivered to him through his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. The case has drawn public attention due to the high-profile individuals involved and the ongoing debate surrounding free speech and online content in Nigeria.
Supporters and critics alike are closely following this case, as its outcome may influence future decisions on defamation and online activism within Nigeria. The case serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with free speech in digital spaces and how these boundaries are tested in today’s social media-driven world.
