The Nigerian federal government has announced steps to eliminate Lakurawa, a new terror group causing unrest in Northwestern Nigeria. This group has been linked to recent violent attacks and killings in Sokoto and Kebbi states. Just last week, the group was reported to have killed 15 people and stolen over 100 cows in Mera, a community in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
During an interview with the BBC Hausa service, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, assured the public that the government is intensifying efforts to address this security threat. He shared that more troops and equipment would be deployed to these areas to prevent further escalation.
The acting Chief of Army Staff has already visited affected regions and discussed strategies with other military leaders on how to tackle the Lakurawa group. Defence Chief Christopher Musa and other senior officials are working together to create a detailed plan, including deploying more resources to the troubled areas.
Minister Abubakar expressed confidence in these new strategies, stating that despite challenges, the government has made notable progress in the past year. He encouraged public support and prayers as they aim to completely overcome this security issue and bring lasting peace to the region.
