A 21-year-old man, Victor Ambeyi, was arrested in Nairobi for the murder of his 78-year-old employer, Catherine Waceke Kimotho. The tragic incident took place in the Nyathain area of Kasarani, where Ambeyi had been working as a casual laborer at Kimotho’s home for about a month.
Kimotho went missing on Saturday, and her family struggled to reach her as her phone was turned off. After an unsuccessful search for her, police discovered her body on Sunday evening. It was found wrapped in a blanket and hidden in a septic tank at her home. Investigators found visible injuries on her head, likely caused by a blunt object.
Detectives, led by Kasarani DCIO Justus Ombati, quickly began an investigation. They tracked down Ambeyi, who was hiding at his cousin’s house in Kinoo, Nairobi. During questioning, Ambeyi confessed to the murder, explaining that he had attacked Kimotho after being upset over receiving less money than what they had agreed upon.
Further investigation led the police to a phone repair shop in Githurai, where they recovered the victim’s mobile phone. The shop owner, Benjamin Kimani Mwaura, was arrested as well.
Ambeyi, his cousin Collins Seda Wanjau, and Mwaura are all in police custody. They are set to face charges, and authorities are continuing to investigate the full details of the crime. The motive behind the murder seems to be a dispute over pay, but detectives are working to uncover more information about the tragic event.
This incident highlights the dangers of workplace disputes escalating into violent actions, leaving a family mourning the loss of their loved one.
