President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is preparing to head to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to participate in the upcoming Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. Scheduled to start on Monday, November 11, 2024, this summit will bring together leaders from various Arab and Islamic nations to discuss critical issues affecting the Middle East.
The Nigerian President’s journey to Riyadh was announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu’s presence at the summit highlights Nigeria’s commitment to global peace and stability.
This year’s summit follows the 2023 gathering in Riyadh and is being hosted once again by Saudi leaders, King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Among the pressing topics for this year’s discussions will be the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. President Tinubu is expected to make a strong appeal for an immediate ceasefire and underscore Nigeria’s dedication to promoting peace and encouraging a peaceful solution in the region.
With regional conflicts escalating, the summit provides an important platform for leaders to explore paths to stability and address humanitarian concerns.
The statement added: “Nigeria will also advocate for renewed efforts to revive the two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace in the region.
“Key officials including the minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, will accompany the President. Other members of the entourage are the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.
“After the conclusion of the summit, President Tinubu will return to Abuja.”
