In a tragic incident on Thursday evening, a police inspector was shot and killed during an attack at a quarry site in Cross River State, Nigeria. The attack occurred at the Marksino quarry camp in Akamkpa Local Government Area. Armed men, believed to be dressed in military camouflage, invaded the site, taking the life of the officer and stealing his AK-47 rifle.
During the same incident, two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian worker were abducted by the attackers. The Zone Six Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi, confirmed the details and said the attackers entered the premises after a civilian worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone Six, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has ordered an immediate search for the armed attackers. The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, has been dispatched to the site to coordinate efforts for the safe release of the victims.
The police have expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer. AIG Towuru has assured the public that efforts to locate and capture the attackers will continue, and that those responsible will be held accountable for this tragic incident.
