Vice President Kashim Shettima recently revealed that President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of minors who had been facing treason charges for their involvement in protests. This decision was made on humanitarian grounds, despite clear evidence of their participation, including photos and videos uploaded by the protesters themselves.
Shettima explained that the protests had caused significant damage to the country, with losses exceeding N300 billion due to the destruction of property and disruption of businesses. However, despite this, the President decided to offer these young people a second chance to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to Nigeria’s growth.
He urged the minors not to repeat their past mistakes and to avoid getting involved in violent actions that harm both public and private property. Shettima also called on governors and other elected officials from all political backgrounds to unite in helping these individuals reintegrate into society through rehabilitation, emphasizing the importance of healing divisions and fostering unity for the country’s development.
The President’s act of compassion is seen as a chance for these young individuals to turn their lives around and help build a better Nigeria.
